New Report Raises Questions About Whether Allegations Involving Rep. Briel Warrant Further Review

New information involving State Rep. Amy “Murri” Briel is raising questions about whether allegations previously made by a former staffer warrant additional review.

A former Briel staffer previously accused the lawmaker of sexual harassment and other misconduct. Briel denied the allegations and pointed to the Legislative Inspector General’s decision to label the complaint as unfounded as vindication of no wrongdoing.

According to a recent media report, however, a second former Briel campaign staffer has now corroborated portions of the first staffer’s account.

The second former staffer reportedly confirmed he was harassed by Briel, personally witnessed Briel give what he described as Adderall to the first staffer on at least one occasion, corroborated the claim that Briel traveled to Michigan to purchase cannabis, and made new allegations against the state representative.

The new allegations included the staffer claiming that Briel threatened him during a phone conversation, telling him that if he did not follow her directions, she would “pull you out into the street and beat you.”

The staffer reportedly said he informed a high-level House Democratic campaign staffer about the alleged threat approximately one week before the 2024 election. The report states that the individual did not respond when asked whether the allegation was subsequently passed further up the chain.

The new account raises the question of whether or not the accusations against Briel deserve further investigation.
